Mo Hu recently published a paper in the ASCE Journal of Management in Engineering about how to overcome status quo bias during the design process for stormwater infrastructure. The article can be found here.
The main contribution of this work is how small changes in perceived social norms affect how decision-makers perceive the risk and benefits of options. Presenting decision-makers with a green infrastructure resolution changed how engineers perceived the risk of green infrastructure and this is observable in their brain. The green infrastructure resolution shifted activation patterns in the brain associated with risk and uncertainty processing.
